Blackboard, the largest company offering learning management software to both traditional and online schools, won a recent patent infringement verdict against a competitor, Desire2Learn, which could ban U.S. sales of Desire2Learn.  This has created quite a stir in the LMS community (http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/25/2345211) with the fear that Blackboard will seek to use this patent to dominate the industry and corner the market.
