October 12, 2007 — My Friday tradition has been to grab a cup of Starbucks brewed coffee before coming to work.  Each Starbucks’ cup has a quote on it.   Who reads those quotes?   I know it might sound weird, but I do …

Here is what was on my Starbucks’ cup today.  “People often ask me if it is worth it to work at sea, isolated from the world, far from loved ones, seasick, and running on three hours sleep.  To lay eyes on something never before seen by anyone, to learn something new about our planet, for that one moment of discovery – yes, it is all worth it.” Katy Croff – Archeological oceanographer

I can remember several personal  ”moments of discovery” just this past week.  And, you know, they were not these huge, idealistic “Ah Hah” moments.  Most were simple, fleeting, and very meaningful.  In the words of an Old Testament prophet, “Who shall despise the day of small things?”  Make sure it is not you or those who you care for.

I have attached a picture of my son, Paul, and his wife Lindsey, and their first child and my first grandchild, Madison Grace.  As you can see, the picture was taken at a recent UVA game.   I am starting her young.   Read the rest of this entry »
